Malahari is the Janya raga of 15th Melakartha Raga , Mayamalavagowla. "Sree Gana Natha"(Geetham) by Purandhara Dasar is composed in Malahari and as per the current syllabus of Carnatic music, students learn this geetham , after completing their basic pattern in Mayamalavagowla. Thus, Malahari is the second raga, every music students learn. Malahari mainly evokes "Bhakthi" rasa and is melodious, but not much compositions,in light genres, are seen in this Raga.
