Nattakurinji is the janya of Harikamboji, 28th Melakartha Raga. This raga evokes Karuna and Bhakthi rasa and the best suitable time for singing is evening time. It's equivalent in Hindusthani music is also called Nattakurinji. But the main difference here is that, in Hindusthani music raga has vakra sanchara in arohana alone whereas in the carnatic music vakra sancharas occur in both.

Can you please tell me in which raaga is the song kuyiline thedi from the movie neelakuyil set in?thank you.....your blog is wonderful and useful......
ReplyDeleteHello friend
DeleteThank you for your interest in Music and my Blog.
Kuyiline Thedi is a folk based tune and these type of tunes are a masterpiece of Sri K.Raghavan Master. In the case of some tunes, we cannot put them in the path of a particular raga. It will be a mix of many swaras, where a pattern cannot be defined. Any way,let me put the notes in the Keyboard and see. I will let U know about this later.
Sir,
