Malahari

Malahari  is the Janya raga of 15th  Melakartha Raga , Mayamalavagowla. "Sree Gana Natha"(Geetham) by  Purandhara Dasar is composed in Malahari and as per the current syllabus of Carnatic music, students learn this geetham , after completing their basic pattern in Mayamalavagowla. Thus,  Malahari is the second raga, every music students learn. Malahari mainly evokes "Bhakthi" rasa and is melodious, but not much compositions,in light genres, are seen in this Raga.

Madhyamaavathi  is the Janya raga of 22nd  Melakartha Raga , Kharaharapriya

This raga was earlier  known as Madhyamaathy. Usually, this Raga is sung as the last raga in a Kachery (Carnatic Music concert)

Maya Malava Gowla

Mayamalava Gowla is the 15th Melakartha raga. The highlight of  this raga is that , this is the first Raga, every music students learn as per the current syllabus of the learning pattern of  Carnatic Music. It's equivalent in Hindusthani is Bhairav Dhatt.

* Note: It is believed that, when Muthuswami Deekshithar was on meditation in Thiruthani Temple, Lord Sree Murugan  gave him "Darshan" and at that memorable event, he composed "Sree Nathadi Guruguho" and it is believed to be the first composition of Muthuswami Deekshithar.

Maand   is the Janya raga of 29th   Melakartha Raga , Shankarabharanam
In Hindusthani Music,its equilant raga is also called Maand and it is the Janya of Bilaval dhat.
During alaap, it is always common that , Maand  resembles Vasantha and Hamsavinodini .

Malayamaarutham   is the Janya raga of 16th   Melakartha Raga , Chakravaakam. Early morning, is the best time , considered for alaap.
If  Rishabha swara is omitted, then the raga changes to Valachy.

Lathangi  is the 63rd  Melakartha Raga .If Madhyama swara is changed to "SudhaMadhyamam", the raga changes to Sarasangi. Lathangi is a beautiful raga where elaborated alaap is possible but, not much compositions(in all genres) are seen in this raga.
